Deliveries
Delivery Days
Our main delivery days are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, though we also receive several other deliveries throughout the week from different suppliers (e.g., beer, soft drinks, vapes).
Each delivery typically includes:
-
Chilled items
-
Frozen items
-
3–4 cages of ambient stock
-
Sweets and confectionery items
-
Other deliveries (beer, pop, vapes, etc.)
Delivery Process
1. Arrival of Delivery
When the delivery vehicle arrives, staff should be ready to receive and direct stock promptly to ensure food safety and minimise disruption on the shop floor.
2. Ambient Stock
-
Ambient stock arrives in cages.
-
These cages must be taken around to the back of the store.
-
Once positioned, the storeroom shutter should be raised.
-
Cages are then moved into the storeroom for checking and storage.
3. Chilled and Frozen Stock
-
Chilled and frozen cages are brought through the front door.
-
These cages should be placed on the middle aisle.
-
Once all delivery cages are in store, frozen and chilled items take priority.
-
One member of staff will put away the frozen items.
-
The rest of the team will attend to the chilled items.
-
-
Cages are emptied one by one, placing items in front of where they go in the fridge.
-
Once the first cage is complete, move onto the second cage, following the same process.
-
After all chilled, frozen, and bread items have been put away:
-
Excess stock and empty cages are taken out through the front door and around the back into the storeroom.
-
Excess stock is then put away in the storeroom, including:
-
Walk-in fridge
-
Freezer
-
Shelving
-
-
-
All staff members then put away the chilled items, making sure to rotate stock as you go.
-
One staff member must also monitor the till and be aware of who is in the store at all times.
4. Ambient Stock on the Shop Floor
-
Once all chilled items are away, it’s time to move onto ambient stock.
-
Management will:
-
Check off each cage against the delivery note.
-
Load the trolleys to be pushed into the store.
-
-
Only two trolleys of stock should be on the shop floor at once.
-
Staff on the shop floor:
-
Leave the trolleys next to Till 2.
-
Work from them one item at a time.
-
-
Once one trolley is complete, it is pushed down into the storeroom ready to be refilled.
-
Depending on staffing levels, you may be required to help management check off cages and load trolleys.
5. Sweets and Confectionery
-
Sweets and confectionery items are left until the end.
-
They are placed on the middle aisle floor while other deliveries are being processed.
-
These items are only put away once all chilled, frozen, bread, and ambient stock have been completed.
6. Other Weekly Deliveries (Beer, Pop, Vapes, etc.)
-
Other deliveries from suppliers are checked off by management.
-
You will be instructed where to place the items, especially if they are new products or require a new shelf position.
-
Always follow management’s guidance to ensure stock is displayed correctly and consistently.
Key Points to Remember
-
Always follow food safety procedures when handling chilled and frozen deliveries.
-
Keep walkways clear and work safely when moving cages and trolleys.
-
Prioritise frozen and chilled items once all delivery cages are in store.
-
Rotate stock to ensure older items are sold first.
-
Monitor the store for customers while deliveries are being processed.
-
Ambient stock should only be worked from two trolleys at a time.
-
Sweets and confectionery are always put away last.
-
Other deliveries must be checked off and shelved according to management instructions.
-
Excess stock must be properly stored in the walk-in fridge, freezer, and shelving.
-
If there are any issues with the delivery (missing items, damaged stock, or temperature concerns), report them immediately to a supervisor.
